instead of "Park". My wife spent a couple of hours waiting for me to help and I walked up to the car, put it in Park and everything worked just fine.

Mine has a little notch in the steering column where you place the corner of the fob before hitting the start button.

It's a key with a transponder chip that has a locks/horn/lights/whatever fob built into it.

Sounds like symptoms of corrosion in the cables or simply bad cable connection.
