Sad, but true
Until we realize the truth, we can't move forward.

As the waters of mediocrecy rise all around, the BYU fan base clings to 1984 like life preserver. Look we had a NC 33 years ago! We had a Heisman winner twenty seven years ago! We are relevant!

Nebraska was one of the owners of nearly three decades of college football, the 70's, 80's and 90's. Multiple NC's, multiple Heismans, long winning streaks, many All-Americans, etc, etc.

Today, older football fans will remember those days, anybody under the age of 35 probably won't. Recruits are told about those days, but the nostalgia doesn't bring in enough blue chip recruits to return to prominence. They were asked into the Big 10 because of the past, but have not lived up to past glory. It happens.

If Nebraska has lost relevance, how can you not believe that the same thing has happened to BYU?

Maryland won an NC in 1953, Minnesota in 1960 are their fan bases clamoring for more respect because of the past?

Outside of the Utah bubble, the only places where BYU is thought of as a football power is in the pockets of Mormons in the US and other countries. The prevailing thought on the board is that BYU has all these devout fans who travel to games. Non-LDS folks are just as liable to think of the racial turmoil of the past or the current LBGT. People have asked me how come if BYU is so against playing on Sunday, the BYU players in the NFL have no problem. Are they sinners?

Not everyone's perception of BYU football is lodged in 1984.

Most recently, check the attendance at the West Virginia game several years ago. The Miami Beach bowl against Memphis. The game at Arrowhead against Missouri. Not good.
