I've heard at least a dozen coaches (none of whom were Mormon fwiw) talk about living right off the field. It's generic do-good-and-you'll-have-good-karma speech. 

It isn't self-righteous at all. I don't get why people still talk about this.

If a player from Wyoming said the exact same thing you wouldn't have even noticed, let alone talk about it almost ten years later
