The Bronco hate was so caught up in what he was NOT they missed what he WAS
An extremely good defensive coach
A decent to good head coach
A great fit at BYU despite not going to BYU
He can fix culture issues (no easy task) UVA is not a major contender in the ACC yet but their culture is nearly changed in two years.
A guy who isn't afraid to step out of the box and somehow did it without missing a single bowl game: (Anae to Doman back to Anae and GFGH, Jamie Hill and back then to Nick Howell and back, Jo Beck/Max Hall to Grit/THill...
A guy who's players loved and feared and ultimately respected him... those that couldn't live up to his expectations or wanted princess treatment didn't like him.
He WAS ALSO an odd social nutball, a stickler to HIS way (can you blame any HC), and likely overly averse to the perception of others.
At least half of the losses to the U were bad calls or the bounce of a ball in our direction away from a BYU win... had that happened I think things would be way different.
