That it has helped me detach from the quest for material wealth. I recognize I could have more if I didn't pay tithing, but I also see people around me at work who aren't spending 10% of their income in tithing donations and complain a lot more about their financial situation, including those who I know make more than I do.
Obviously it sucks. My dad has the same monthly payment as I do, but his rate is stupid low. His house is worth easily 4x as much as mine and he builds more equity with each payment than I do. I still count myself fortunate that we could even get I to a house at all that wasn't a complete dump or in a terrible neighborhood.
