Your PAC invite was more to do with BYU religious culture
I don't know if you are a member or not. However the Church's policy on Sunday play didn't help. Being a religious school in a Liberal conference didn't help. Prop 8 didn't help. BYU really didn't fit their mold. Utah was a safe choice considering the other options.
An outsider would be puzzled as to why the PAC 12 took Utah over BYU which is still a lot bigger in EVERYTHING. Your football was better for the last 8 years, but that is starting to level off. Even then your football wasn't much better. We were still hitting 10 win seasons and bowl games during your hay day. Your basketball is atrocious....although you guys did hit a jackpot in the 90's. Don't think that will happen again especially with BYU on the scene now.
Being BYU is great, but there are obstacles that we present sometimes being Mormon.
