problems are many. They begin with the pros who everyone watches and emulates
At the US Open, with groups of 3 and players who rarely have to look for their ball, rounds took 5 1/2 hours; with 10 min tee times. Then lousy golfers try to do what they do, not playing ready golf, not doing gimmes inside 3 feet, and studying putts from every angle. Additionally, many "golfers" play courses far too hard for them. Moving forward on tees helps a little but does not solve spraying the ball both right and left. But biggest issue is courses' unwillingness to mandate faster play because they need the money. They fear angering anyone who pays money. Lastly, many believe golf is a social game and the conversation and beverage is more important than the game.
