Following guidelines for equitable score control for handicapping, basically anyone with a handicap less than 10 can only record at most a double, up to 19 handicap can only record a score up to 7. Most avid golfers are 20 or below handicaps, so for heavens sake just pick up instead of finishing a hole if you are going to do worse than double.
