Of course, he was never going to play the US Open. I don't know what you are arguing. Federer himself has credited his increased rest with his resurgence. He has said he plans to play less to play better because his body will not withstand the grind. His back wrecked him 2011-2016. His knee is fine now, but if he went back to a normal schedule, the back would flare up again.
