And got excited about that group plus Childs and Bryant. In particular, I circled 2018-19 as a potentially special season if all five of those guys stayed around and stayed healthy.

But with Mika and now Bryant leaving early, I just can't help but think what could have been. Then you have the possiblity that Childs and/or Emery may not return.

Then you factor in that the part of the LP3 that's still at BYU have somewhat low athletic ceilings as far as top 100 recruits go (just were way more skilled than 99% of their competition at a younger age and played together on a HS national championship team). And that, along those lines, BYU never seems to have any hard-nosed or rangy, althletic guys who can defend.

Next, you factor in that Dave Rose just seems to be running on fumes and marking time through the end of his contract. And that, along those lines, there just seems to be something "off" with the culture of the program.

Finally, you factor in that BYU is in a backwater conference where 80% of the games are unexciting, no-win situations. And that it's hard to imagine BYU making it back to the NCAA tournament for the foreseeable future.

The combination of all of these things just makes it really hard to care.
