take this approach for their own benefit and still some percentage of them end up hospitalized we end up back at overwhelming the healthcare system and a lot of not-so-healthy people die because of that selfish choice.

This is just one of those situations where we all have to be willing to do crappy, uncomfortable things for the greater good and stop thinking "well, maybe I could play the odds/system to my advantage".
