I'm not seeing it.
Who were all of these really good options at WR in 1996. Kealaluhi and McGuire were decent WRs. After that, there weren't any really great options, or guys who made very little impact.

I've always thought the 1996 team was the best BYU has ever had.

A prominent player on the 1996 team is a friend of mine. Paraphrasing, he has said that that team was 1 or 2 players

IMO, there’s a case for that. There’s also a case that the ‘84 team was better.

11/30/20 11:01pm
Yep! In fairness the '82-'85 rosters sent 27 players to the NFL, CFL and USFL.
LEDSFW
11/30/20 11:28pm
I honestly believe the 85 team was even better
BigYfan
11/30/20 11:33pm
In `85 Bosco had the bad shoulder and comparatively spaghetti arm
HootnHoller
12/1/20 12:12am
Yep, the 1985 team was 3 bad bounces away from repeating at national champs
The Chelsea Dagger
12/1/20 1:50am
the difference was a pick 6 in each of the 3 games as I recall.

Yes
BigYfan
12/1/20 11:14am
They also lost to UTEP, UTEP's only win of the season.

If healthy 1985 was the better team- he were snake bit

That 85 team flew around on defense

Exactly, he was so good too.

No offense, but that means nothing.

No offense taken. Saw a post about the 1996 team and was reminded of my friend's comment.

They beat UW that year and they might just win the NC. I mean, after BYU lost to UW, it took them 7 weeks to get back up
unctoothman
11/30/20 11:22pm
Horse should have tackled better, it could have defeated UW. Didn't!
LEDSFW
11/30/20 11:27pm
They were Corey Dillon choosing UW over BYU away from going undefeated.
Belboz
12/1/20 8:21am
Why would it take one or two more players to win that one game against UW?
Lip Gallagher
12/1/20 9:58am
UW went away from Rashaan Shehee in the second half in favor of Corey Dillon
Belboz
12/1/20 11:22am
I actually thought Dillon might go to BYU.
Jeffacka
12/1/20 12:10pm
me too
Belboz
12/1/20 12:28pm
So how was byu 1 or 2 guys away from undefeated?
Lip Gallagher
12/1/20 12:45pm
Corey Dillon made a huge difference for UW.
Belboz
12/1/20 1:19pm
Nope. But they were pretty good.

I’d agree with that but may be nostalgia talking.

"Flame away" is the dumbest phrase on CB. You are inviting incivility yet I will
Sid Vicious
11/30/20 10:59pm
Ironically, you just ‘flamed away.’
Zaphod
11/30/20 11:02pm
No, the dumbest phrase is “board name checks out”

I'm not sure this year is better than 2006 to be honest, but I think 2006 is

That Arizona loss really tarnished that team.

1984 RBs are better than 2020, 1984 OL was the best- we had 5 others
1984coug
11/30/20 11:42pm
How is the 84 RB group better?
Lip Gallagher
12/1/20 10:12am
Smith and heimuli were better than 2020s RBs
1984coug
12/1/20 12:13pm
Meh. Heimuli seems average. What was incredible about him?
Lip Gallagher
12/1/20 3:21pm
2020 team sucks.

GREAT analysis--looks like '96 (but would have to go with Lee Johnson punting).

Hntrguy
12/1/20 12:23am
I’d put the 96 WR group ahead of the current one if only for their depth.
The Chelsea Dagger
12/1/20 2:00am
96 WR group is definitely the best imo.

12/1/20 2:06am
You'd swap Romney & Milne w KO & Mcguirre, huh? No way would I.
SinkingQuffa
12/1/20 2:22am
Very few would. Receivers were not the highlight of the '96 team.

Lip Gallagher
12/1/20 10:45am
Maguire finally got his legs straight while running and became very, very fast.
Belboz
12/1/20 1:30pm
Different NFL then. KO & Kaipo were good
SinkingQuffa
12/1/20 1:59pm
Romney can't even score (kidding). But yes, I would
spugeddy24
12/1/20 5:49pm
Would you also swap Michael Jordan for Ron Harper?
Jeffacka
12/1/20 5:55pm
I can't tell if you're serious? They were good, not great though.
Jeffacka
12/1/20 7:24am
no. 1996 receivers weren't close to the best unless you include Mili and Lewis
Belboz
12/1/20 8:22am
Don't think it's as big a stretch as most think
stansburycoug
12/1/20 10:14am
I'd take Romney over any receiver on that 1996 team.

You didn't like Dye or Cahoon?
stansburycoug
12/1/20 1:22pm
Sure, but their impact as WRs was minimal. Neither had many catches that year.
Jeffacka
12/1/20 1:24pm
I'd much rather have Pau'u going over the middle than Kaipo.
SinkingQuffa
12/1/20 3:03pm
Pau'u has too many drops for my liking.
spugeddy24
12/1/20 5:51pm
This is a bad take
stansburycoug
12/1/20 6:12pm
Still not sure why Dye didn't stick in the NFL. He was a phenom as a returner
HootnHoller

No surprise at all. He was puny. Incredible athlete, though. All 155 of him.
SinkingQuffa

I tend to group WR and TE as the receiving corps.

In a mythical tournament, I’d take 1985, 1996, then 1984. 4th would be a tossup
The Chelsea Dagger

‘83, ‘84, and ‘85 were all very good. I think ‘83 might be the best.

17-14 against New Mexico, 28-25 against Wyoming. 2020 is much better IMO.
