at both the Iraq and Afghanistan operations. With many claiming our troops were terrorizes and imperialists. Democrats refused to wear the flag or even feign patriotism. All sorts of anti war (and in many ways anti militsry marches).
Yet college football and the major sports held great ceremonies, including flyovers, to much fanfare extolling their support for the troops. All this in a time of great discord and division on the appropriateness of American military might.
Support for the military and patriotism was very much a politicized and divisive issue(as the child of a veteran much to my dismay). It was very real.
And my guess is not a single person who now claims that sports are too politicized cared a bit because they agreed, as did I, with the cause that was being politicized and connected with sports.
Look, I’m just pointing out blind spots. And some folks here can’t stand the thought that they have blind spots and that they might need to think about some things. I do the same thing to my flaming liberal sister and brother in law.
I find it educational to help people recognize blond spots...and I’m a bit OCD so it’s hard to let it slide some times.
