I went back to grad school for PhD in mid 30s.

Totally changed careers after that (to academia). I really enjoyed first career but couldn't see doing it until retirement. Came to a crossroads, either grad school and academic job, start my own company with a colleague, or CIA. It has worked out well, but after a while in any track I suppose you need to find ways to get reenergized. Good luck

I recommend that you read The Way of the Seal by Mark Divine. Then do what you want to do.
