That should not be a surprise to anyone for a team with a new HC and coaching staff. This is not Lavell’s team; this is not Bronco’s team. Past expectations can’t reasonably be expected to apply. There’s a period during which even a bad HC will still “coast” on the prior coach’s systems and recruits, but that’s how I look at Kalani’s first year. Hopefully 4-9 was a hiccup, but only time will tell. Our recruiting pool hasn’t changed a ton, which can also help a bad coach coast a bit. But that will also change over time.
Not saying Kalani is bad. Just that normal has changed, and he’s got some work to do to reset expectations after last year. This is what the “FIRE BRONCO!” crew seemed not to appreciate. You change an HC, other than the interim year or two, all expectations should change.
