The FBS group of Div. 1 colleges is is an organization that has contracted with
the NCAA as members. The NCAA schedules championship tournaments and awards, enforces rules and doles out money to each member college. Among a lot of other things.

There are numerous college athletic conferences and a small group of unaligned colleges. These
Conferences can deviate from the NCAA as they wish. The College Football Playoff is not sanctioned by the NCAA, but the Div.1 schools. As we know, the P5 schools dominate that process.

There should not be any reason why these P5 schools cannot set up another sub-group to coordinate football scheduling and championshipsAmong themselves. If BYU or Liberty contend they should be included, other schools that don’t have an ESPN TV contract might complain.

If some FBS schools can have exclusive contracts, why can’t others have exclusive agreements with other schools?
