BYU was left out of the bowl alliance selections - Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta Bowls (Rose Bowl was separate) and did not get the opportunity to play a top-10 team. The Cotton Bowl against then-#14 Kansas State was a decent landing spot - and BYU played well to win that game.
