Under Kalani, we seem to be offering a lot of high-level players that are unlikely to come to BYU. As these kids naturally whittle themselves down by committing to other schools, BYU will be able to focus on the few that are really interested. During that whittling process, we will be able to start extending offers to the kids who Bronco normally focused on and recruited from the outset--those kids that were less heralded but were very high on BYU (usually because they're LDS).
To me, Kalani is doing it the right way. Go after long-shots and if they don't materialize, you can still go after the others. I also get the sense that Kalani and Co. aren't neglecting the kids in the second category.
