I think it would work fine. Heat is heat. I bake in my smoker all the time.

Go for it. Everything is good cooked on cast iron.

Sounds good. My personal preference is to not use the liners. I get why people do, because cleanup is way easier

Yup the reasons to use cast iron are the even cooking due to more uniform heat
