It's definitely interesting. Who's to say why that is?
I like to remember that they can always go back and claim that as a redshirt year any time until the player's eligibility is exhausted. When tracking rosters and scholarships, I always take the conservative approach and assume that if a player was eligible for a redshirt in a given season, I apply it and extend the eligibility and the scholarship out an additional season. Even using this method, there are only 10 differences between my roster and the BYU online roster when it comes to Class (i.e. I show RS Sophomore and they show Junior). And if the program elects to not pursue a redshirt for a certain player, I just show them leaving the program with the graduating seniors with a year of eligibility remaining.
