Several older uprights can have more soundboard area than baby grands
as well as longer strings. In pianos, generally, larger is better.
If you have a full upright, instead of one of the shorter 'spinnet' pianos, you might get better sound out of your upright. The full-size uprights can really sound quite good, if they're in good shape.
