If you’re not a piano aficionado, is there someone at the home who is?
Because if not, I’d question dropping the cash — and dedicating square footage — for a baby grand, especially one in the range you’re mentioning. I’d also question the value of dropping the numbers you mentioned on restoring the old one unless it’s a family treasure you don’t want to lose.

Unless you or someone in the family is (or will be) an accomplished pianist/musician, I’d lean towards an affordable but capable upright, or even — gasp — a higher-end digital piano with an even smaller footprint.

But if you’ve got the room and the budget and the talent (or prospective talent) to justify the baby grand, go for it!
