with very good durability. The sort of model you seem to be talking about is probably going to exceed newer vertical pianos in terms of quality if it is properly maintained. However, grand pianos will still tend to give you a richer tone in terms of sound. In terms of overall quality, a baby grand piano would probably rival that of a high quality upright piano. A bigger grand piano would exceed the quality of an upright. However, you would also want to consider the size of room you are putting the piano in as a smaller room wouldn't work well for a larger grand piano (too loud) while an upright or baby grand may not be able to fill up the space in a large room. If you go with a grand piano then a baby grand is the smallest you'd want to go as a "small grand" or "mini grand" has shorter strings and actually provides a lower quality of sound than a good upright (since it has a smaller soundboard).
