Lots of people claim this kind of stuff
If he has an accountant do his taxes for him there's a good chance the accountant takes that kind of stuff out before he files the return. Some accountants are very unethical and file returns with pretty much anything. If an accountant gets caught doing that kind of stuff the IRS likes to make examples out of them and audit all their clients. I've heard horror stories.
