Including a winning record against Utah, and a respectable record against Gonzaga.
BYU isn’t Duke, or UConn, or Kansas. We never will be, either. We don’t (and shouldn’t) attempt to measure our success by the number of deep runs we make in the NCAA tournament. Neither do most college basketball programs.
We have a tradition of winning basketball at BYU, but we have never been dominant. We will occasionally flirt with greatness (i.e. the Ainge and Jimmer year’s), but most of the time we’re just solid. And really, given BYU’s circumstances and limitations I’m pretty happy with that.
No coach is going to turn BYU into a national basketball powerhouse. To believe otherwise is simple self delusion. Dave Rose has done an exceptional job at BYU. Every metric supports this narrative. It would be an incredible mistake to run Dave Rose off. It’s incredibly naive to think anybody else is going to have any more success at BYU than Rose has had. He’s the most successful coach in BYU basketball history. What part of that is so difficult understand?
