Dave Rose will finish his career at BYU as the winningest coach in this program’s long history. Let that sink in. He has won more games than any other basketball coach that has ever coached here. He continues to win the majority of games his team plays regardless of who plays for him. He routinely deals with roster and personnel issues caused by the missionary program that would have made lesser coaches crash and burn.
Admittedly, this isn’t Rose’s best team. We really only have two consistently good players. His roster is a walking orthopedic unit, and there isn’t any senior leadership at all (there isn’t a single senior on his roster!).
Still, he manages to win most of the games his team plays, including a sweep of the other D1 schools in the state, and a victory over the Utes. We were one shot away from beating a top 20 St. Mary’s team, and we played the Zags tough in Spokane. I wouldn’t be shocked if we beat them in the MC on Saturday.
Say what you want about Dave Rose, but his record speaks for itself. Nobody has done a better job coaching BYU basketball than he has. It’s naive to the point of silliness to think that somebody else is going to come in here and accomplish more than he has. Because nobody ever ever has!
