Our culture of sending people out for missionary work and the fact we have only one flagship church owned university...namely BYU. We use that vehicle to bring favorable attention towards the church, including athletics. IMO the Catholic Church & members don't see the role of their MANY Universities to have the same role. Their primary role is providing education. The closest comparison they have is Notre Dame, and I don't see as one of its clear priorities or objectives is the image and missionary outreach for their faith.
