As long as the spirit of the law is followed which HC police ( along with stupid classmate zoobies) REALLY struggle with... it’s good but those morons do so many stupid things it is hard to defend them.
I work for a consulting group on the east coast and I know from first hand conversations with non LDS that recruiters as well as those that acquire talent do not want to see a recent college grad walk in with a full beard. Stubble is even worse. Am I saying you’re not going to get a job in Corp America with a beard or stubble? NO, I’m only saying that having a beard will OFTEN ( not always ) be a strike against you...
So, by not allowing beards BYU is simply trying to improve your odds at success while also keeping all the common (but recently less so ) negative connotations away from the school.
Totally agree that it really matters what profession you’re going into. There are a ton of good jobs where a beard makes no negative impact on your chances... but seriously... how could you possibly police this for one group and not the other?
Lastly, having worked in young men’s lately... my goodness we need to do all we can to save some of these kids from themselves... having a beard is not a big deal either way but learning to follow stupid rules IS a BIG deal and a skill that will always be necessary no matter where you are in life... sad I know... but very true.
