The real question for Mika and Bryant is whether playing an extra year at BYU
would help them get into the NBA. It might because they have another year of experience and practice. Then again, they are risking injury by playing, and what if they play worse next season than they did this year. Bryant was great. Will he match that production? If not, it's costing him money and opportunity to play professionally (if not the NBA).

Bryant must believe that his marketability as a basketball player is as hot now as it will ever be. Thus, no matter what he might do at BYU next year, he will not have significantly greater odds of playing in the NBA. Thus, he can either make money in the G League or overseas, or play for free at BYU.

I do not see this as an indictment against BYU as much as it is a sign of the times. EB recognizes who he is and what he can do. I think Mika could have been drafted into the NBA with another year at BYU. I do not think the same for EB, and I cannot fault a guy for wanting to get paid.
