All the reasons you give is why players should get paid.
The gap between the haves and the have-nots couldn't be wider. Duke got 3 of the top 7 recruits last year and 3 of the top 5 this year. Kentucky got 5 of the top 30 last year and will likely do the same this year. I'm not sure how these schools can do better in attracting talent in a meaningful way.

By allowing players to get paid a school doesn't have to invest 40 million dollars to build a basketball mecca, or 4 million dollars to get a great coach. All it would take is a couple hundred thousand dollars to attract 1 or 2 players that could be difference makers.

And please don't start with the "underhanded illegal stuff". That is what the current system fosters. Have you not followed the FBI scandal? That doesn't happen if athletes can get paid. Addidas or Nike should be able make a deal with whatever player they want out in the open without having to do the shady illegal stuff that goes on now.

I'm really not in favor I having schools pay players per se. I do think the college system is a good deal. But if players want to make money outside of the school structure while they are in school, that's fine. Every other student can do that, why not athletes?
