From your note above it’s clear your employees have access to the car. The
Fact that he is an independent contractor means nothing. Keys were available and accessible. Insurance follows the car not the driver.

By the way, say he has insurance because he has his own vehicle. He would file a claim with his insurance coverage but the claim would be denied because your insurance would be primary coverage and his would be secondary.
