Wrong. That's not why.
I'm a prof and love Wikipedia. I don't even mind if my students "use" it. It just isn't an original source of anything. You should typically be citing original sources. I tell them to cite the sources that Wikipedia cites. Otherwise, you are citing the wrong thing.
