no, just pointing out that this isn't a new thing and was prevalent with..
...the previous coaching staff.

As for Manti, who knows how things went between he and Bronco with his recruiting. Did Bronco pre-judge him as having a weak testimony and therefore he was unworthy of playing for him? Those were the kinds of kids that Lavell used to really lean on to consider BYU because he believed the school could change them. Have you ever heard Derik Stevenson talk about his recruitment by Lavell? He was a rebel (still is) who really saw that he needed that kind of structure in his life and ended up serving an LDS mission as a result of coming to BYU and playing for Lavell. He shudders to think where his life would have led to today if he hadn't gone to BYU. He's a classic example of "I didn't go through BYU, BYU went through me."

In sharing the gospel (and ministering in general) we've been counseled not to pre-judge people when it comes to our own perceptions of whether they'd be interested in hearing about the gospel or not and that there are no coincidences in life, that the Lord arranges things, we live where we live, we work where we work, we know who we know for a purpose and what is that purpose? Moses 1:39.

Had he not pre-judged Te'o who knows what difference he could've made in his life. BYU can be a powerful agent for change in a kids life.
