I've seen the "cyclical" statement made a few times on this board and it doesn't
make sense. If all things were equal like money, coaching, and recruiting then sure there would be some level of a cycle repeating, but that's not the case. Financial markets are only cyclical at a high micro level. BYU or any team doesn't represent an entire economy, they represent a company. How has the uptrend in recent years helped Blockbuster?...
BYU isn't in danger of losing sports. I was really intrigued to see how independence would affect recruiting. Curiously from what I've seen the talent level at BYU has gone down, even though the BYU fan base self-proclaimed that being indy made them superior to the G5s somehow. I think there's a stronger case for BYU joining a G5, but I can also understand why they're hesitant to do so.
