a good point 1280 brought out is that Beau is just one of 100 athletes.
Sure it'd be great if all the coaches involved with Beau had a sit down with him and his dad, and a nice convo about pros and cons about switching and so forth. Reality is, they have 100 players and are trying to work their butts off to save their jobs. As Hans put it, "they don't have time to deal with this kind of distraction from a parent." I think it sounds perfectly fine for the assistant head coach to be the one to share the news that the coaches had probably all discussed. It was probably just a way of dividing and delegating duties, and the other coaches were probably busy with who knows what.

If you read books about other football teams, like Steve Young's, you realize many of the coaches have very little to do with you unless you are first or second string. Beau wasn't, and like all 3rd-stringers, he wanted a chance to be. But that doesn't mean he warrants extra time from the coaches who are busy with the established ones and twos.
