The problem is that, with the complete absence of any offensive line at the time
Riley was still the most likely to succeed, even while injured. Any QB in there was going to be running for his life on just about every play. A less-mobile or traditional pocket-passer QB would have gotten torn to pieces very quickly, and an injured Riley would have become the healthiest QB on the team. An injured Riley Nelson truly was the best option in a truly bad situation (i.e., zero pass blocking).
