...have to recognize it, break off routes and either hold up and wait on the ball (which allows the DB time to recover and close on the ball and make it a more difficult catch) or try to come back on it. I’ve seen several times in the past few years where BYU WR’s haven’t been very good at recognizing an underthrown pass or coming back for it. Seems like it’s rare that BYU QB’s of late have overthrown BYU WR’s on deep balls
I think it’s fair to say that the WR’s haven’t helped make Tanner look better than he’s looked but conversely he hasn’t made the WR group look better either (doesn’t lead them open, throws to them too late, struggled with accuracy, etc). Beck as a senior is a good example of a QB making an avg WR group look great.
I think, however, it’s a lot more feasible for 1 guy (the QB) to make 8-10 guys (WR group) look better than it is to find 8-10 guys who can all combine to make the one guy look better. Tanner just needs to step it up and be that Elite 11 co-MVP QB.
