I am not an Indy lover but what I do like
is BYU is able to schedule a good amount of P5 opponents mixed with some of the better G5 teams. If your in the AAC, you probably play 2 or 3 P5s year.

UCF is on the verge of going undefeated for 2 straight years, yet they still have almost no shot at getting into the playoff. If BYU were to put it all together and have a season like UCF, while playing 5 to 7 P5 opponents, you have to believe they would have a much better shot at getting in then UCF currently does.

The other thing is if g5 teams like ucf continue to make noise and have undefeated seasons it could speed up the process of the playoffs being expanded to 8+ teams which would make it even better access for G5s and BYU.

In the end it really just comes down to winning and the real problem is BYU is 9-14 over the last two seasons. It wasn't long ago that UCF went winless so they hit rock bottom at one point. If BYU were currently in the AAC I am not sure they finish any higher then maybe somewhere in the middle of the conference. Until BYU gets much better on offense they will continue to struggle to win games regardless if they are Indy or in G5 conference.
