The Weber OC who left for BYU is a Sitake. Ed Lamb came back to Provo because of his history with BYU. You will ALWAYS be able to find guys here and there with enough love/loyalty for BYU to come to Provo when asked. Grimes obviously had no BYU ties but was there really a downside for him coming to BYU? He got a promotion, gets his chance to turn around an offense that had fallen on really hard times, and if he does so, gets his name out there for either an OC position in a P5 conference or maybe even a G5 HC gig.
IMO, being the OC/DC or position coach at BYU is a much different animal in terms of upward mobility when compared to the HC position.
Serious question for anybody who is interested in having a conversation about BYU’s current situation: In what areas is BYU’s football program trending up? I would love nothing more than to see BYU re-establish themselves as THE unquestioned top program in the state, but what are we seeing that tells us we can see them moving in that direction? And with all the current factors in place that seem to be a hindrance for BYU football, why is it so crazy to believe that coaches aren’t really interested in coming to Provo?
