Performance. I don’t think you realize the talent game between BYU and Stanford this year. We beat them early in the season at home and at full strength. We had neither of those advantages in the Final 4. When we lost McKenna Miller, it would have taken a miracle to win the National Championship, especially with Stanford winning and being in our side of the bracket.
As far as last night goes, there were a couple of things. First, Stanford was extremely dynamic on offense. It was something that only elite, ELITE teams can do. They were able to adjust and beat us. We just couldn’t be dynamic, especially because of injuries. BYU’s “dynamic” was being able to fill in for injuries. We didn’t have any tricks up our sleeves that could be really effective. The way we played was how we could win, and Stanford stopped it.
I’ll address this too, even though it wasn’t specifically in your post. Someone last night was upset that the girls didn’t even look sad when they lost. It’s because they knew Stanford was better. They weren’t upset because they didn’t play bad because they choked/sucked whatever. They followed the gameplan, they played well, and Stanford made them uncomfortable and beat them.
If you go back and look at BYU’s first timeout in the first set, it was like 14-14 or 14-12 Stanford. The announced talked about their hitting percentages. BYU was hitting like .400 and Stanford was like .007. And it was tied/they were up, I can’t remember exactly. They won, even when our hitters were hitting well.
