or representing they are better than student-athletes at other schools; simply asserting that BYU's unique), I'm first and foremost a fan of them. It's at the core of why my family and I donate monthly to BYU Athletics. The sport is the vehicle that is crafting future young women and men into leaders for their families and communities. This volleyball season for these young women will serve them well throughout their lives as they move on. They memories and diversion they gave my family and I as we attended most home games and enjoyed seeing their passion, resolve and battling on the court (and sweeping Utah!) is something I'm very grateful for.
There is a unique connection that can occur between the broader athletic department and BYU alumni and fans, I feel, if the alumni/fan treats the sport performance as a diversion you can enjoy, regardless of the exact outcome, and keep in context that these are young women and men striving to be their best at representing BYU.
