I don't know if this is true (it was part of the UH sales pitch).. however...
We were told by a Hawaii coach that players earn 'frequent flier miles' for all of their game travel. UH flys on average 50k miles per season and that's enough to earn one (maybe two) free flights.
NCAA Rules do allow D1 athletes to earn frequent flier miles however most teams fly charter flights (aka.. no miles). Hawaiian Airlines is the official airline of UH and according to their miles program, they can offer miles earned on designated charter flights.
So... It is possible UH players get a few free trips home (or anywhere) after the season.
