So, I'd like to see an increase in enrollment as well, and have a suggestion ....
Dramatically increase "remote learning" options like Study abroad at BYU, across the country and the world.
Develop 10 to 12 remote options such as Washington DC, New York City, Austin Texas, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Toyko, Hong Kong,London, Berlin, Rome, Rio, and places like that.
Each Location ends up specializing in a couple of areas....
Washington DC in political science, and history, and maybe some others
New York in Fiance, Music performance, etc.
Seattle in computer science
Austin in engineering
Berlin in History and German and international relations
London in Literature and International relations
etc etc etc
At each location, BYU sets up a couple of things....
1) a Dorm / apartment complex
2) a classroom complex, with some classrooms and some telelearning pods
3) long term relationships with local colleges/universities and businesses (cross registration kind of things at colleges and internships at businesses)
4) Faculty Housing options for Professors and their families for 3 years or so.
Everyone at BYU is REQUIRED to spend at least ONE semester OFF CAMPUS at on of these remote learning centers (so you need about 4000 to 5000 "seats" at all them together, so around 400 people at each location)
A typical Semester for a student at the remote location would be some combination of the following....
a) a religion class (can be taught by almost any Prof at almost any location in almost any classroom)
b) one or two of the specialized focus classes for that area ... Taught by BYU Profs who are living with their families there for 3 years or so
c) an Internship at a local business and/or a cross registration class at a local university
d) a "telelearning" class online back to BYU-Provo (perhaps building on BYU-I's extensive online class experience)
This lets you increase TOTAL enrollment to 40K or so, while maintaining current campus at roughly 32K.
"Cool" cities like Washington DC, Rome, Berlin, Toyko, etc will probably be places that Professors would like to spend 3 years or so on a "sabbatical" kind of thing.... perhaps developing new research lines in connection with local resources.
By the entrance to BYU is say "the World is Our Campus" .... let's make that a reality....
Every Graduate of BYU will come to their next employer with a wider breadth of experience than just BYU. It would be GREAT for the students to spend time someplace other than Provo. It would create some AWESOME YSA wards in various places, and great new married couples wards as well.
