I think you are right.
It is perfect for a couple of types of kids.

1. They aren't sure what they want to do. They know they want a college degree but not sure what field they are headed into.

2. It is good for kids that do know what they want to do and BYU-I has a program for that that is pretty strong. The nursing program, the IT fields and accounting as well as some of the pre-med degrees are all good and turn out students at the top that are comparable to just about anywhere.

3. You didn't get into where you want to go and you want to go back to your first choice. Go to BYU-I and get a year or two under your belt and move on. I watched a lot of people transfer to BYU and other universities in their home states after a couple semesters or even a couple of years. They had gotten married and moved on or had gotten what they were looking for out of BYU-I, cheap tuition and a good start to their college career. Lots of them even found a spouse.

It is not for everyone, but I think a lot of people discount the opportunities it has for stupid reasons.
