I will disagree with your thought on the fade away shot. Any great post player will always have a great fade away. It is almost impossible to defend. I will admit you didn't see many college players trying to use it but it is becoming more and more popular in college than it use to be. There have been many great pro players that had a deadly fade away shot, but I don't know of a single pro player who wants to take the ball strong to the basket 15 - 20 times a game, getting hammered every time. They won't have a very long pro career because injury is much more likely with that style of play. Childs has improved his fade away over the years and needs to continue to practice it so it can become his go to shot.
