Making a move without a solid plan doesn't always lead to better results. Owning the state and 19-24 wins in "down years" are light years ahead of the last two football seasons. Everyone felt football was trending down and now we are playing .500 ball hoping to limp to a bad bowl games. The bar got lowered quickly.
Rose has had a downtrend, but he's also still a top 7 active win% coach, owns the state and hasn't had any truly horrible seasons. He consistently finishes in the top 1/3, was an honor code violation away from a true shot at a title, and built the high expectations we have now. Maybe there is someone out there that will take us higher, but I don't see how the odds would favor that.
It's obviously no secret we all want basketball to do better. Eli/Mika on this squad and we are probably singing a different tune right now. I'm not close enough to understand how much the player continuity issues are on individuals or the culture, but the last two seasons weren't going to take a step forward losing all-conf players early.
What would be your recommendation for a new coach, and what should the expectations be at BYU year in and year out? I think most people now realize 10+ wins/BCS games at BYU every year was unrealistic, and now we are worse off in every objective way.
