I don't know either, but unless someone can provide more detail on these
types of stats, it's not anywhere conclusive that tech growth and housing prices are fueling a rise in homelessness. I realize it's all anecdotal, but regardless of the city I'm in, I don't often see homeless who look like normal, functioning adults who might be working 2 or 3 jobs and are just homeless because it costs to much to get an apartment.

The only exception to that would be some of the panhandlers, but with them it's hard to tell what the story their is.

I know it's popular to trot out the picture of the single mom with 3 kids who works 3 jobs and is homeless as a result of the evil rich tech employees riding the Google bus, but I don't know that there is evidence out there to support that claim.

Based on my conversations with a good friend of mine who is a social worker that works with the homeless, people that are homeless tend to be in that situation due to a lack of connection with family, friends, or other community, and all too often, it's accompanied by mental illness and/or drug issues.

I think that it would be very difficult to prove that increased housing prices is causing homelessness.
