Did you read the Berkeley study?
Lane splitting accounted for 17% of all motorcycle accidents. Rear-ending accounted for 4%. Lane splitting increased the incidence of the motorcycle rear ending another vehicle.
Lane splitting at full speed was highly discouraged by the study. It recommended it only be done when traffic is slowed and when the rider isn’t going much faster than the surrounding cars. It basically concluded that lane splitting is safe IF it’s done in a smart way. That’s a very big “if”.
