CrossFit is great but there are flaws. Olympic lifts are rough on even the young and in shape let alone the middle aged and beyond crowd.
Probably the worst thing about CrossFit are the trainers. Their certification process isn't great and the trainers are typically terrible and modifying lifts and other exercises for folks that have joint or health issues.
I'm a former power lifter and used to do CrossFit. CrossFit was directly responsible for shoulder surgery. Both my knee doc and my shoulder doc, both of which are considered to be among the top, if not THE top guys in Utah, have both warned me never to do CrossFit again. I've switched to a trainer at my gym who has a graduate degree in exercise science and I'm now working out in a more appropriate way for my age.
