You just made the case for what I’ve been saying for years, and is why the NBA

no longer appeals to me. From my youth (1970s - early 80s) I was a huge NBA fan. In the 90s the league really began to change. By 2000s it had devolved into street-ball and embraced a gangster-rap persona. I quit following and it became a peripheral sport to me.

So what? You say. Attendance and viewers are as strong as ever.

Perhaps, that could be. But it doesn’t change that fact that it’s a completely different game today than it was “back in the day”. Trust me, I’m not alone. The NBA has simply traded one group of consumers for another.

What I’ve consistently said is what your stats portray. No one plays defense anymore. Fundamental basketball skills have faded and been replaced by the long-ball. And the league has facilitated the change. The NBA rules changes over the years have limited defenses, promoted perimeter shooting clear out isolation. Zone defense took the key and baseline out of the game. Big men are gone. The center, the power forward are gone.

Is it any wonder the NBA has become a bombs-always shooter league? With no interior game, no defense, no offensive rebounding?

if you like this product, fine. But you can’t say it’s better. It’s just different, a very very different game than it used to be.

I don’t happen like this NBA.
